On 29 and 30 October 2022 over 60 Aikidoka trained together in Papendal under the guidance of Kayla Feder (7th dan, Aikido of Berkeley, USA), Ruud van Ginkel (6th dan, ASN), John Goverts (6th Dan, AFN), and Piet Lagerwaard (6th Dan, AFN). On the initiative of Kayla Feder, the seminar was organised to support refugees from Ukraine in need of help.
In his opening speech, Gertjan Boks, Chair of the AFN Board, explained the rationale and intentions of the seminar, concluding that Aikido is for bringing peace in people’s hearts and lives. This spirit of peace flowed through the entire seminar, inspired by the four teachers’ guidance. In an atmosphere of dedication and joy, everyone, teachers and students alike, practised together and learned from each other. Thanks to all teachers, organisers and volunteers who made this extraordinary event possible!
